District Assembly Dramas - where the heck do they come from?
by babygirl30 indespite growing up a jw i was always curious where this corny plays came from?
my best memories of them were when they used to turn the lights out in the convention center - cause that meant i could sleep!!!

Courage 5thGeneration; been there, done that: "Today is The Tomorrow I Dreaded Yesterday." It's a new day, a clean slate; the old cliche "one day at a time" is a valid one. We all stumble but need to move on.

I was part of the very first one, "Cities of Refuge," back in the late sixties. We recorded it at Bethel and Brother Ulysses Glass, since deceased, oversaw the production.

How I left Jehovah's Witnesses/Maeve Courteau
by not a captive inin february of 2009 i slipped a letter of conscience under the doormat of my former book study conductor who was out of town.
that letter was written because i could not support a portion of the materials that constantly was featured in wts literature.
at the time i was a sister in good standing.

Well and thoughtfully done! I must admit, I'm surprised at the length of the WT's response letter.

Apostate Signs At Conventions...Has Anybody Left Because Of That?
by mentallyfree31 injust wondering how much good that does when ex-jws hold up signs at conventions.
do you know of anybody that saw something on a sign and did research and subsequently left the organization?.

The one problem with any sort of picketing is it reinforces the JW notion that " apostates" (1) are organized and militant; and (2) out to suck them over to the "dark side" like some sort of satanic vacuum cleaner. It takes an uncommonly courageous JW to engage any of them in conversation, especially in plain view of passers-by.

JWs Worship of GB vs exJWs worship of Ray Franz
by Broken Promises inas jws, we would have seen the adolation the governing body received.
even as far away as australia, we thought and spoke of them with reverence.
after all, they were figuratively at gods right hand, with the prospect of one day being in heaven with him.

Blondie, you point out a very significant change in WT policy that's evolved as the organization acquired assets over the years. In the old days, they used to be they used to provoke legal confrontations and encourage JWs to surreptitiously enter private apartment houses, etc. in order to assert their 1st amendment rights. Those were the days of Hayden Covington and Bill Jackson in the legal dept. Now much more wealthy, they're much more risk-averse.

Audio: Generation teaching as explained at the San Diego District Convention 05-30-2010
by kurtbethel inthis is an excerpt from the final talk of the day, "remain in the secret place of the most high".
i looked around as this explanation was being offered up, and the looks on the faces of people there was mostly disinterest.
this is a very convoluted explanation that reminds me of someone running a con and trying to cobble together an explanation to deal with legitimate objections to their false claims.. http://www.sendspace.com/file/dodp4w.

I know I began a thread on this, but I wonder just how many 40- and 50-something JWs realize that this "new light" condemns them to a pre-Armageddeon death?

Day 2 of the Convention is over ... what's missing?
by wannabefree inday number 2 is done.. there was an audio drama, sure, it adds some excitement, hey, its different.. final talk "stay close to jehovah, as jeremiah did" ended with the release of the book ... god's word for us through jeremiah ... not a verse by verse consideration of prophecy, rather, what we can learn from jeremiah's life as a prophet, considers information from jeremiah and lamentations.
(of course informed readers of this site knew of this release already.).
noticibly missing ... jesus christ ... to me it was painfully obvious.. one talk i think was numbing our mind to accept the generation bomb tomorrow.. i couldn't help but realize that throughout the convention so far, the vast majority of scriptural references are from old testament (yes, it was hard not to say hebrew scriptures, so i just did).. i didn't realize it so much in the past, but it seems like jehovah's witnesses are trying to accomplish what the nation of israel couldn't, follow laws.

"This Generation" New Light:" A Death Sentence For 40-50-Something JWs
by Room 215 inone of the mesages emanating from the "new light"rhetoric is that it might be prudent to prepare to die before armageddon.
better to forget about the assurances that "you will never grow old, much less die" in this old system; maybe it's time to enact a macabre plan b and latch onto a cemetary plot and prepaid funerals....
